so i offered 1400. we met at 1500. i took the seats out of it yesterday. the vw sits silently. forgotten...or not...

i do make this oath:I promise not to take the z-bed out of the vw and put it in the school bus. I PROMISE!!

i feel bad telling you this, but i've distracted my attentions...

i wish i could show you a picture, but you wouldn't like to se it...

the thing is, i've moved on to bigger and better things.
maybe i'll start a new blog.
it would still be about a bus.
but a real bus.
i mean...almost real...
a short bus.
a short school bus.

yep.

that's right...

it's sitting in my driveway.
blocking the vw...

kinda sad and exciting at the same time.

i'll show ya later...

good for what ale's ya

you ever heard of this stuff?

do you believe in miracles?...
well...this is the plan...
it won't start

and i can't figure why

so i finally tried what i should've tried before i bought it

tried turning it over by hand...just to see...

and i used a huge wrench and alot of muscle...alot...

and it didn't budge...not a bit...

and that's not good...not good at all...

something's not clicking. or, it's clicking. and that's all. might be something so simple i've overlooked it. or, it might be downright complicated. but for now, the fun part is over and the frustration has kicked in. i'm gonna take a break for a few days.

the engine is re-installed. and most of the wires and hoses, but not all. some lead to nowhere...so i gotta figure that out...
well hello you beautiful new clutch. i am very excited to meet with you.

did i ever show you how i supported the tranny while i was messing with everything else? just a strap and a 2x4.
i swear he's five years old going right on to fourteen. my little man modeling a captain underpants t-shirt, and a 1985 vanagon engine.
about to get medieval...but thank jah, my neighbor saw what i was doing and loaned my his awesome cherrypicker. thanks justin!

wish me luck!

i'm gonna put this thing back together today.
new clutch installed.
thank you very much.
maybe i can get the engine back in this weekend...
happy fourth of july. please celebrate responsibly.

awesome pic if i do say so. it's a crappy cell phone pic, but check out the light shining through the red loctite dripping off the bolt.
books and websites reccommend (how the hell do you spell reccomend?!)  to use a thread lock compund. i had this so i used it. the books also reccoemnd using new hardware...do they know how much nuts and bolts cost theae days!?> i chose to stick with stock...vintage...original bolts.
book reccomends 44 foot torque. i just torqued what felt like 40 lbs then gave it an extra push. book reccomends 40 or 44 (i don't remember) ft lbs and a 1/4 turn after. i guestimated. but am depending on the red loctite. i have faith.

lookie what i found in the pile of stuff that came with the van...a felt washer!! yep! the one that supposedly goes o n the back of the flywheel against the pilot bearing. can you even believe it!? i was just standing there sniffing carb cleaner and i glanced down and there it was!
our town went from lack of choice to at least two choices of BARBQ and it's just so wonderful. i love barbq. it was long overdue. so this fella craig is running the barbq truck across from burrito amigo and his signature sandwich is "the viking" presumably named after the high school mascott. i highly recommend. a dollar of the proceeds go to siuslaw athletics, the rest will fill your belly and i'm not kidding. it's a half pound burger topped with bacon, briskit, pulled pork, and steak. i'm so happy. now if they only had grits and sweet tea...
main seal gasket removed. three shims not in the picture. real thin. nothin' to 'em. the grease is packed in that hole trying to hydraulically foce the bearings out. it didn't work. my neighbor came by later with a tool that popped it right out nice and smoothe. he had one of those tools that you might never need in your entire life...but if you need it, it's good to have.
it's good to have good neighbors that have good tools.
new clutch kit!!
interesting.
looks like the portal to the death star in star wars 1...or four...the first one...i mean the first one that came out in theaters. the one where luke lives with his adoptive uncle and they rehabilitate droids and he has that awesome landcruiser. he gets attacked by the sand people, and that was scary as hell the first time that thing jumped off the screen at me. i was eight. i saw it three times in the theater. that's the best episode as far as i'm concerned...and princess leah was so hot. and a wookie. i wanted a wookie of my own. i think there's some validity to the wookie. i read this bigfoot book that talked about aliens with fur and technical belts and stuff. i read an account out of missouri where these kids get accosted by aliens with fur and dog-like faces that had these belt/strap things across their torso areas with lights on them...kids...kids taking acid...what cha gonna do...?
